Coaching Endorsement

The Coaching Endorsement at Metro RESA is a GaPSC approved preparation program that provides approved candidates with the coursework and related field experience required to add the Coaching Endorsement to a current standard Georgia Professional Certificate. The program is open to any educator holding a clear, renewable Georgia certificate (T4 or higher) who has a desire to acquire the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of an effective instructional coach.

- 150 contact hours/15 PLUs
- Comprised of 3 separate courses, with an additional embedded performance-based field experience requirement
- Virtual delivery via Blackboard and Zoom; to include asynchronous study assignments

Admission Requirements
- Candidates must hold a valid T-4 or higher, Clear Renewable Certificate in any teaching, service, or leadership field.
- Candidates must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
- Supervisor recommendation form.

Tuition Costs
- The individual course cost is $350.
- The total cost for all three required courses is $1050.
- Participants will not be allowed to begin a course until payment is received by Metro RESA.
- All fees are non-refundable.

Course I: Foundations for Student-Centered Coaching (50 hours/5 PLUs)
Foundations for Student-Centered Coaching is designed to provide and deepen candidates’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the coaching process by examining theory and research in relation to:
- building coaching partnerships with colleagues,
- leading coaching cycles around student learning,
- using intentional communication skills,
- leading data-focused conversations,
- leading collaborative learning teams,
- facilitating group protocols, and
- supporting a coaching culture.
Candidates will explore, discuss, and apply theory and research through assignments, activities and field experiences.

Course II: An Investigation of Coaching Learning Teams (50 hours/5 PLUs)
An Investigation of Coaching Learning Teams is designed to provide and deepen candidates’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the coaching process by examining theory and research in relation to:
- leading coaching cycles around student learning,
- using facilitation skills and language,
- matching protocols to group work,
- leading data-focused conversations, and
- using elements of effective collaboration.
Candidates will explore, discuss, and apply theory and research through assignments, activities and field experiences.

Course III: Performance Based Coaching in Action (50 hours/5 PLUs)
Performance Based Coaching in Action is a performance-based course designed to provide candidates the opportunity to apply and practice their acquired knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to effective coaching. Candidates will complete specific on-site field experiences with individuals and groups of individuals in relation to:
- coaching individuals, facilitating team protocols,
- evaluating effective student-centered coaching,
- coaching support protocols, and
- evaluating the coaching cycle.
Candidates will explore, discuss and apply theory and research through assignments, activities and field experiences.

Meet the Coordinator

Wendy Cox, Metro RESA Coaching Endorsement Coordinator
Wendy serves as the Coaching Endorsement Program Coordinator. Her background is in professional learning, teacher mentoring, instructional coaching, and school reform. During her twenty years in the Cobb County School District, she served as a teacher, academic coach, and District-Level Professional Learning Supervisor. Wendy is an adjunct instructor for Berry College in the Educational Leadership and Curriculum & Instruction graduate-level programs. She also owns Speckled Mosaic, an educational consulting company. She feels fortunate to continue working with teachers, coaches, and administrators as a consultant, professional developer, and trainer. When she isn’t busy coaching or teaching, she is enjoying time with her husband and their two sons.
